One of the beauty industry’s most successful freelance entrepreneur stylists, Karen has been the talent behind the braids, extensions, dreads or wig styles of Angela Basset, Nia Long, Nancy Wilson, Star Jones, Anita Baker, Regina Belle, Tyra Banks, Roberta Flack, Ziggy Marley, Debra Cox, Shari Belafonte, En Vogue, John Legiziamo, Maxi Priest, Xscape, Cassandra Wilson, Debbi Morgan, Natalie Cole, Eric Benet, Kim Coles, and Eric Sermon – just to name a few. Karen, who obtained a B.S. in accounting in 1983, and her cosmetology license two years later, began her career at the age of 12. She would braid hair on her mother’s stoop and in neighborhood parks. Since then, her craftsmanship has made it onto such screens and stages as The Cosby Show, The Essence Awards, The City, Eve’s Bayou, and numerous music videos. It has appeared in advertisements and commercials for Slim Fast, Coors beer, Seagram’s Gin, and Flori Roberts; and on the pages of Essence, Heart & Soul, Black Elegance and Belle.
